Thank you Veterans

Thank you Veterans, to all those who serve and who have served.

There have been a number of posts going around talking about the great Veterans Day sales around town.

Instead, we want to talk about how you can thank your veterans, not just today, but every day.

• Donate to Military Families.  Out veterans who serve are away from home, away from their families, away from their children for months at a time.  There are several organizations that help provide support to military families.  One such organization is the National Military Family Organization at https://www.militaryfamily.org/.  As their site describes “Military families struggle with frequent uprooting and wartime stress, separations, wounds, and loss. Since 1969, the National Military Family Association, a 501(c)3 charity, has offered uplifting programs to heal, strengthen, and comfort them.”
• Invest in Veterans.  According to the CNN article “Five Ways to Honor Veterans beyond Veterans Day” “About 77% of veterans have struggled through unemployment and more than a quarter have searched for more than a year for a job”.    For business owners you may want to look at the Returning Heroes Tax Credit as just one more of the many reasons this is a great thing to do.
• Volunteer your time.  Whether you want to donate time to a Veterans organization or simply share an afternoon with a veteran there are so many ways you can enrich the life of our Veterans.  Visit a retirement home or a VA Hospital and thank them for their service.
• Donate to the Wounded Warriors Project.   The Wounded Warrior Project works to foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation’s history.
• Thank a Veteran any day of the year.  It doesn’t have to just be on Veterans Day that we say thank you.

It’s official Denver, Dunkin Donuts has FINALLY opened their first Denver location. This morning at 5 am the doors of a new Dunkin Donuts Broadway Location at 366 Broadway. The lines stretched out the door and outside into the parking lot while cars lined up down Broadway to take part in this Grand Opening Event.

Who else came out for the biggest opening in the world of coffee and donuts for Denver… why none other than the mascots of the various Denver sports teams.

Being the first to visit Denver’s newest Dunkin Donuts has it’s perks too.  As part of the Dunkin Donuts invasion of Denver they are offering free medium-sized hot or iced coffee (one per customer) and 99-cent medium lattes through September 29.  That’s right folks… for a limited time your Dunkin Donuts Coffee is FREE.  The last day for your free coffee just  happens to be National Coffee Day.  For those who went at 5 am the first 100 guests to visit received $10 Dunkin’ Donuts cards.

5 am is just a little too early for us… but here is what the lines looked like at 8 am.  Yep, I think Dunkin is going to be popular here in Denver.

Denver is booming folks, and this is not the only Dunkin Donuts coming to Denver.  Dunkin Donuts opened a new location at the Airport today too and Denver mayor Michael Hancock will be the first customer at that store.  Their ribbon cutting ceremony will take place 15 minutes after the opening at Broadway.

What happens next… the third Denver Dunkin Donuts will be opening up near Sloan’s Lake in the Jefferson Park neighborhood (and pretty much the edge of Lohi).  If you live in this Northwest Denver area of town your opening is just around the corner.

If you haven’t been paying attention to the growth and expansion of our great city, it is clear everyone else is. From a new Trader Joes to Dunkin Donuts to whatever goes into Union Station… we have nothing but stories about growth.

Living Downtown is simply amazing.  We have light rail, public parks, restaurants, bistros, B-Cycle and now DUNKIN DONUTS.

Car2Go is Coming to Denver

Yesterday at the Bike to Work Day Party at Cactus I saw something I had just been reading about in the New York Times Article “Car Sharing Grows With Fewer Strings Attached“. What I had read about was the Car2Go.com Network that had overtaken Europe.   What I saw were three Car2Go Cars lined up on 15th Street.

Needless to say, I was excited.

It turns out that Car2Go is launching in Denver and they plan to fill our Downtown Denver neighborhoods with their little fuel efficient smart cars.  Car2Go is a car sharing service that has been very, very successful in cities far bigger than Denver.  They do one thing that I think is pretty smart… they don’t use parking lots but use public streets to boost sharing.  When you want a car you simply find the closest one using their online or mobile app locator tools. When you are done you just leave it wherever you stop provided you are in the coverage areas.

Car2Go Launch Party at the Kitchen June 29th from 11 – 4

They are hitting Denver with a big Launch Party at the Kitchen Denver 1530 16th Street Denver Colorado on Saturday, June 29th from 11 am – 4 pm.   The Car2Go Denver kickoff will have free food (while supplies last), promos, swag, test drives and you might just win a smart car.

When I saw them yesterday they were taking email addresses to give away free memberships and get folks kicked off with a little first month starter plan.

Car Sharing Revolution Across Denver (and elsewhere)

This is a trend that is taking off.  I haven’t driven my own car for almost a month (it’s a personal goal) and this option would be perfect if I take the plunge and let go of my car entirely.  Granted, I’m on the creative side and I do more work in a studio than our Denver Urban realtors do.  But that doesn’t stop me from thinking that car sharing is a great idea.  It shares resources and provides a solution for those of us who want to minimize our car driving as much as possible.
